When I was at school, Section 28 was in force. So queer stuff wasn’t really talked about at all. I suppose, I hadn’t realised how kind of gay it was at the time, but I was really obsessed with Interview with a Vampire when I was a teenager. And it was only when I watched the TV show with my other partner, who had read my copies of the books wondering why I was so obsessed with Anne Rice, and I was like, "oh my god, this TV show got the feel of the books so perfectly." And he went, "oh yeah. And it's also really, really gay. Exactly like the book." And I was like, "what?" And I think it's because my brain was a bit like, not thinking that these vampires should be any other way. I was just super accepting that vampires just are bisexual. They're attracted to everybody. They're pansexual, I suppose. And I only ever questioned it if somebody wrote vampires and I thought they felt very wrong and very straight. So maybe my love of queer vampires... I don't think I've got a queer friend who doesn't have a favourite monster.
