About the Project

Our Mission

Phases is a digital and physical archive dedicated to showcasing the diverse lives of queer people in Leeds. By collecting stories across generations and sorting them into the pride flag's themes, the project aims to ensure our community's lives are well-documented and never forgotten. It also aims to encourage communication across generational divides by highlighting our shared experiences as well as our individual differences.

Meet the Creator

Hi, I'm Abbie!

As a lesbian who only moved to Leeds for university three years ago, I've always felt a bit disconnected from my queer peers in the city. I decided to create Phases to encourage my community to document our own lives in our own words, and to share that process with each other too.

The Physical Zine

Beyond this website, Phases exists as a printed zine collection, because continuing the queer ritual of physical zines being used to communicate is important to me. The zines are available to download so they're accessible for all to print from home if they wish.

You might even find a copy of the zine collection at The Zine Library in the Leeds Art Library!
