Feeling Seen Through TV

Storyteller: Michelle
Age: 52
Identity: Bi/queer

Being able to talk to people and be honest and hear people's stories and be able to identify myself in that has always been helpful. Being seen, you know, watching certain TV programmes and having gay characters on there and being able to relate. There's so much more vsibility now. I remember we just had Tipping The Velvet, which was on TV and was amazing at the time. But now we've got so many wonderful and positive stories, as opposed to.. we always have to die or be pedophiles or be evil or all the other crap that comes along. Being able to actually have really positive stories and representation is wonderful to see. Heartstopper was just such a joy, I absolutely loved that... I think they are becoming more popular. It's so nice to be able to open Netflix and find shows that actually are no longer so hidden away. We can actually have some beautiful representation.
